Mid Hudson SWE Girl Scouts TJBot, January 19th, 2020

We enjoyed working with Girl Scouts in Hudson Valley yesterday on January 19th 2020 on TJBot Speech to Text project.  TJBot is an Open Source Project designed to help access Watson Services in a fun way!  We used two Raspberry Pi kits for two teams to demonstrate Watson Speech to Text service in IBM Cloud.  The girls from local high schools enjoyed getting the TJBot to connect to cloud, interpret the speech commands and turn on the LED, change the colors of the LED as well as turn off the LED.  In addition they were also able to accomplish the challenge part of the project to get the 'Disco Party' function to work, which changes the LED to a series of random colors.

I would like to thank the Yorktown Team that developed the project and shared the Raspberry Pi Kits with us (Wendy Chong and team) as well as our very talented volunteers Susan Rombawa (GF), Heather Polgrean (IBM) and student volunteer Maya Jabcuga (Lagrange Middle School). 

Looking forward to collaborating with local schools to bring more STEM events to encourage girls in engineering!

         Mid Hudson SWE Community Meeting Nov 14th

We met at Sloop, a casual brewery in East Fishkill on November 14th at 5pm for the first Mid Hudson SWE Round Table! This event was open to members and non-members alike. The purpose of the meeting was to explore ideas for events, community projects, outreach and educational opportunities for the upcoming year in a relatively informal setting. Members of the Fishkill Historical Society were invited to the event as well.

September 26th 2019 - Annual Kickoff Meeting

We had the Mid Hudson SWE Annual Kick off Event At Ice House on September 26th 2019.  The event was open to both members and non members.  After introducing the new 2019-2020 board members, we had a talk by Stacey Kurian, P.E. and Julianna Connelly from the Chazen Company.  It was interesting to hear the perspective of early and mid tenure Women engineers from Civil Engineering field and their challenges and success stories working for a local engineering company.
